For one of my tasks this week, I had to design a sound logo. Basically a sound that is heard when a computer starts up or shuts down. Here is a link to mine:
The sound I created for this task was made using Native Instrument’s Massive plugin. I used three oscillators: two saw waves, both detuned to create a nice phasing effect. To give the sound a bit of low end, I used a modulated sine wave on the third oscillator.
I increased the attack on the amplifier envelope to make the sound fade-in, added a release to create a smooth fade-out. I adjusted the sustain and decay as well. I added a bit of white noise to give it an “airy” sound and finally used a low-pass filter to remove the unnecessary low end.
Looking back with hindsight, I think I may have the sound logos a tad too long. Also I could have increased the attack to make the sound fade-in as it starts a bit too immediate.
